THE OFFICE:

Dr. Vianne Timmons' Office of Community-Based Research at the University of Prince Edward Island is the academic centre of research projects initiated by Dr.Timmons.  Dr. Timmons has led research projects at UPEI since she joined the institution in 1996. Her projects at UPEI continue through the Office of Community-Based Research while she is now the President and Vice-Chancellor at the University of Regina.

 

ABOUT OUR RESEARCH:

Research at the Office focuses on:

  • inclusive education
  • family literacy
  • children with special needs
  • Aboriginal communities
  • newcomer families who speak English as an additional language.

 

RESEARCH STAFF:

There are currently four employees working in the Office.  Shelley Gordon is the Project Manager and Nora McCarthy, Bobby Cameron, and Elizabeth Cairns are the Research Coordinators.

 
CURRENT PROJECTS:
1) Retention of Aboriginal Students in Atlantic Canada’s Post-secondary Institutions: An analysis of the supports available to Aboriginal Students.
2) “Train-the-Trainer”: A Family Literacy Approach for Aboriginal Families in Atlantic Canada.
3) Connecting Families Through Community: An English as a Second Language (ESL) Family Literacy Research Project.
